An apology-

I'd like to make an apology to all the people of this marvelous group that I drunk dialed last night. I hope I didn't wake anyone, and I honestly have no recollection of what I said. I just remember that last night was a baaaaaaaad night. A lesson, never drink when you're hurtin' inside.

Practice

So these are some garbage sketches from the break room. Practicing for WW really. Just having random people name some characters from games or comics, and trying to draw them in under 10 minutes. As you'll notice most of the costumes are wrong, but I'm just trying to get the jist of drawing characters from memory. So building a library of characters for the convention. Number one Convention Rule, if you can draw someone else's characters in your style and someone walks by and notices it and likes it...great way to get people to your booth. It is after all a comic convention, people want to see stuff they know.

Of course in Disney break rooms, you've got your Master Chief here, and apparently they only knew the X-Men.

It's fun stuff though. It was nice drawing for a change.

Good times, see you soon!

MA-CHINE-HEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEAD 2

This did not work quite as well as I would've hoped, because I drew the head a lot less sketchy than I did the body (the chin has really hard lines).

PS. I fucking hate drawing machines. Robots are fine, but the word "machine" is so much more old-timey, so I had to make it look really primitive and steam engine-y. I'm not very good at it.

Some chick.
Some kid was giving a speech in my class and he was posing all dramatically. I drew it real fast.

Those last two were done in a really thick sharpie. Fun.

GOT A MA-CHINE-HEAD

Man, Machinehead is a really good song. Too bad his head doesn't look much like a machine. It did earlier, but I changed it, for the worse, apparently (no reference).

The eye/hand probably could've been better if I had been looking at an eye or a hand, but this is all referenceless.

The Rioteer: Champion of Freedom!

So...this actually started as a gag, a few months ago. The comic book shop that I frequented was looking for a comic strip to run in their newsletter. Some of the people who worked there actually read The Path, so they asked me if I'd be interested: the pay was free comics. How could I refuse? I'm a big fan of the old Republic Captain America serial (Cap is responsible for thousands of deaths in that serial...it was great), and of "pulp" heroes like The Spirit, The Shadow, and Mignola's Lobster Johnson...so I said, "How about a guy fighting Nazis in New York?" I had been working on a design for "retro" Mr.Riot for DDCW, and decided that it could double as filler for DDCW until Zac and I got off our asses and started updating again: so, "The Rioteer: Champion of Freedom!" was born.

I did three stories of The Rioteer, each one roughly 5-7 pages long...and they were ridiculous. I mean, really. The Nazis had won WWII, New York was now the Third Reich's playground for mad scientists...and out of the chaos, an ex beat-cop named (get this) Shamus MacRiot becomes The Rioteer to try and fight back. Complete with a Captain America-esque shield and Mobster partners (the Mob wasn't any happier about the Germans taking over NY than The Rioteer was), The Rioteer fought Nazi Vampires, robot zombies, primordial monsters and the terrible Dr. Zeitkrieg! The last page of The Rioteer run in the last newsletter showed Freedom's Favorite Son being hurled from the top of the Empire State Building by a giant iguana. Apparently, the readers of the newsletter (all 32 of them) demand to know what happens next...so I'm going to keep doing it. It's fun.

I'm going to have the first Rioteer story at WWTX printed (through Kinkos, because I'm poor). Above is the cover.

DADDY'S HOME! (or, Bow Before My Artistic Might!)

I return from the state of big apples and even bigger mouths. I speak, of course, of New Yawk.
Whilst there, I decided to take a crack at drawing real people in my "I wish I was Mike Mignola" style. I'm especially pleased with how Lovecraft came out. I'm contemplating grey-scaling these pics...opinions on doing so?

H.P. Lovecraft:

Edgar Allan Poe:

Mike Mignola:

I colored the cemetary pic (finally):

more character studies and stuff

I'm going home this weekend. I'm so excited. HOME. It'll be nice to taste a bit of freedom. 4 day holiday. Get to reunite with family and friends, and then get sucked right back into the abyss known as DW.

Anyways here's more stuff to fill space. I actually SCANNED my pages in now, and they're inked. Now I need to color them.
Almost being productive now. I also did the thing I had to for Carly (after 5 months)
Working on some Civil War merch. Because money for plane tickets and money for producing the books is really helpful.

I had tonsillitis for a bit, and that wasn't very exciting. Uhm....Can't really think of anything too exciting. Just wasting space on MM, so in the future when people are trying to remember the old internet they can have a viable case against Mom and Pop blogs and their space filling bullshit.

Holy CRAP!

So, you know how I said that we were meeting with our prospective web-developer? We'll uh, yeah. The guy is a BADASS! We weren't expecting the site to go live for a few months, but from the looks of things, everything could be ready to go within two weeks. Two weeks people. Yeah, it's nuts. We're checking out server prices and domain names today. It looks like ATcomics.com is going to be our best bet.

So, here's what I need from you guys. I need banners for your comics in our links section. Now, I was just going to use the ones we have here at MM, but if you wanted other ones to be used, then let me know. Also, I need opinions on our site layout. Below is a screen-shot of how it's going to look. The only thing I need to comment on is the top banner, the one from the UT comic. That picture is just a filler, that header will be replaced with transparent pictures of the characters in various dress. Like, badass new game coming out? Characters dressed up like that. Just a quick picture that we can change whenever. So, I know that banner looks awkward, it's just filler for now.

So, what do you think?

Taaa-Daaa!

Cheers!

Fun things indeed-

So, fun stuff happening on the Acquired Taste front my friends! I had the first meeting with our prospective web developer today! He's a great guy, and pretty much just what we're looking for. Funny thing? I went to high-school with em! Nuts eh? But yeah, he sure as hell knows he's stuff, so maybe (just maybe) the actual site might be up in time for WW-TX! So, I'll be working on that over the next few weeks, as well as wildly scrambling to finish midterms. Oh dearie me. Thats coming up isn't it?! DAMN!

Also, I've been working on drawing those damn women folk. I've just kind of avoided it until now, but I'm really gonna have to learn how to draw them. So, here as some quick sketches, inked and made glossy with a ten minute coloring job. Heh.

I think the one of her walking away is my favorite, but I'm getting the hang of it. Here is another one I did for Priceman. He did a fan art piece for me a looooong time ago, and I just now got around to making him one.

Thats his man character Zera. She's a fun one to use as a model, especially for bitchin' action shots. Although, I wish I would have played around more with the perspective in this one, I like the way it turned out. And I sent it to him on his b-day! What are the odds?

So, you crazy cats, I'll keep ya posted on the progress of everything, and I will see ya soon! Shazam!

(Acadia, I don't think your head is smelly or stupid. ;D)

Cheers!

Itty bitty living space

I single handedly failed our apartment because of "my half of the room" which had only laundry.
Bogus.

I know, I know. I've posted like nothing in ages. Right now I'm totally working on learning how to animate in flash, I've got some things I've wanted to do and can't do them in comic form. Good news is that I've got 2 sketched out and paneled pages for my comic, I just need to ink them.

This picture is from a study chart I've been doing for the characters, because I'm going to start getting pretty in depth with this animation stuff. Lucie apparently broke her knees in the full color shot. Whatever, or she has to poo. Good times. Can't wait till Texas. It's going to be a blast. I NEED to REALLY get some new stuff out. Riot and I've talked about updating Civil War, so expect that one day in the future. Good times ahead! Table 2 for Life!

Allan and Pixie, we'll represent you in our hearts.

Clish-what.

To appease the masses I have sketched a cliche action villain (because of the fedora, lapels, and cigarette he is considered cliche). Hope you enjoy, masses!

I'll have more to come in the following days... but I should probably go to sleep!

'S Been a while

So I've been aft (away from tablet) for a while, and I figured I should make some sort of post to make sure that people didn't think I was dead.

Oh, and look, I drew a cool thing.
That's about it.

I'm off to actually work on my own comic.

-Dave

Edit: I colored it.

Look what I can do ma!

I just drew a Dire penguin. Why? Because I can.

So things are going well lately, I finally got everything settled in in my room well enough that I can have my own little drawing station. It's really nice, and even the mini-fridge is within arms reach! It'll encourage me to draw more, as well as give me a place to work. Booyah.

Here, check it out. -

Cool eh?

And for a preview, a little somethin' I'm working on for our favorite evil pixie. Shhhh, don't tell her though, it's a surprise. ;D

Alright kids, thats it for today! I'm gonna order some Chinese take out and get ready for work. Lata!

Sir Terry

A sketch done for Kota of The Errant Apprentice fame. It's one of my favorite comics, and should be one of yours, too! Seriously, go read it. Now, damn it!

RAAARRGGHHH!!!!

Just a quick sketch I did of me and madscott. Yes, I'm wearing an Optimus Prime helmet. I'm trying to get in the habit of doing quick sketches again so that WWTX will be sketch-filled.
